Therapy and psychiatry sessions occur via live video chats, whereas coaching sessions take place through text-based chat within the Headspace Care app. Coaching focuses on your present situation and future goals, fostering a collaborative relationship. Together with your coach, you'll identify small steps toward your goals and make adjustments as needed to stay on track.

As the frontline of mental health care and often the first point of contact, coaches play a vital role in our members' care. While some members may require more advanced support from therapists or psychiatrists, their journey typically begins with a coach. With 24/7 access to the coaching team, coaches are essential to ongoing clinical care, working closely with other branches of the team.
Therapy:
Therapy involves sessions with a licensed clinician aimed at addressing ongoing psychological symptoms or patterns of thought, behavior, and emotion that no longer serve you. It provides an opportunity to explore past and present issues in order to create positive changes in your life. Therapy primarily focuses on understanding the underlying reasons behind the development of these patterns.
Your therapist may encourage you to delve into your history to uncover or untangle emotions, or to concentrate on identifying and changing current patterns. The techniques you learn in therapy will equip you to manage the behaviors, emotions, and thoughts that contribute to distress.
Psychiatry:
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who prescribe medication to manage psychiatric symptoms. They work along side your therapist and coach to help create a sustainable treatment plan. The psychiatry intake is 45-50 minutes long and each follow up session is 20 minutes long. Please note due to prescribing restrictions for telemedicine, our psychiatrists cannot prescribe controlled substances including stimulants, benzodiazepines, or opiates. If you have questions about your medication and if it is a controlled substance we encourage you to reach out to your primary doctor or send us a message caresupport@headspace.com.
