What is a mental health coach?
Mental health coaches are highly trained professionals who help people pursue specific mental health goals and implement tools to improve their mental health and lifestyle. Coaches can help people with a range of challenges, from stress, burnout, and everyday anxiety to those who need support through life transitions, or relationship issues.

What is Video Coaching?
Headspace now offers hybrid video and chat-based coaching to members of select organizations. Video coaching allows members to connect with their coach via video appointments. Discovery sessions will be conducted via video, and members will continue to meet with their coach via video once per month. Members will continue to meet with their coach via video once per month and connect via chat between sessions. All sessions, video and text, are 30 minutes.
How is Video Coaching different from chat-based coaching?
Video coaching allows for face to face, real time communication with your coach, helping build rapport and enabling an even more personal connection between you and your coach. Chat-based coaching allows for more discretion and convenience. Members on employer-sponsored accounts also get access to 24/7 unlimited on-demand chat-based coaching whereas video coaching must always be scheduled in advance.
How can I tell if I am eligible for Video Coaching?
At this time, Video Coaching is available to employees of select organizations, as well as their adult dependents, who reside in the US or Canada.
How frequent are video coaching sessions?
Eligible members can book one video session each thirty days, with text-based coaching available between video sessions.. All initial discovery sessions will happen via video. All sessions, video and text, are scheduled for 30 minutes.
Can all coaches provide Video coaching?
At this time, only select coaches offer video coaching. Members who wish to sign up for a video session that are currently paired with a coach that does not offer video coaching will be prompted to switch or stay with their current coach and opt-out of the addition of video coaching until the coach is added to the program.
How can I schedule a Video coaching session?
To schedule an initial discovery video coaching session, navigate to the Care tab of the Headspace app.
Members who currently utilize coaching:
- Select the Video Coaching in-app modal at the top of the Care tab to get started
- If your current coach does not offer Video coaching, select “Rematch”
- Select a new coach and schedule your first session
New coaching members:
- Select the Video Coaching in-app modal at the top of the Care tab (shown above) to get started
- Select a coach and schedule your first session
How do I start my Video Coaching session
Navigate to the Care tab of the Headspace app.
- 30 minutes prior to a scheduled Video session, members can access the Zoom waiting room by selecting the “Join Waiting Room” button.
- When it is time for the scheduled session, members can click the “Join Session” button.
Navigate to the Video Coaching appointment confirmation email
- On your smartphone or tablet, open the email received when you scheduled your coaching appointment, or the reminder email you received 48 hours before your session.
- Select the option to begin your session
What if I cannot connect via video?
If you cannot connect via video from within your app, utilize the session link shared via email. If you still are unable to connect, utilize the text-box to connect with your coach once the session has begun. Your coach can assist with troubleshooting and ensuring you are able to connect. Should you and your coach be unable to troubleshoot any issues, they will happily assist in rescheduling your coaching session.
How can I change my Video coach?
Developing a sense of familiarity with your coach can take time, and our coaches are very open to feedback. We encourage all members to explore additional sessions with their coach to continue to build a relationship. Should you need to change your Video coach due to a lack of matching availability for scheduling, please contact the Member Support team at caresupport@headspace.com.
Are sessions recorded?
Headspace uses third-party technology to securely record and transcribe Video Coaching sessions with your consent. These sessions are only reviewed by our internal quality assurance team or coaching management team to ensure the highest quality coaching experience.
